Baltimore to Bourke 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

Australian flowers in the centre are surrounded by birds and animals which are also native to Australia. The only imports are the pile of books and the apple.

The background colours represent a large proportion of the country in the summer, and some of the country almost all the time.

Super Sashing OP 31, 32 from Virtual Quilter

Sashing is something quilters use to separate pieced or applique blocks, especially in sampler quilts, but I think they can be the feature part of a quilt design too.

I love the second design … I am tempted to play with colours in this one, but that will not happen over the next week … too many other things happening in life!

Fiddling with Fabric 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

I don’t know too many quilters who don’t fiddle with fabric every chance they get, and I think most of us get a little fidgety if we go too long without touching our fabric stash!

All the designs in this project file would be fairly fiddly to make up, but I guess it would give us an excuse to fiddle with the fabric.

9 Patch ‘n’ Apps 5×5 21, 22 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting design and interesting colours in the first design. Yesterday’s designs were very feminine, but these have at least a masculine touch in both blocks and colours.

My favourite for today is the second design.

Judy’s Jumble 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

I love the colours … very feminine though!

I love the second design for the colour choices and the pretty floral applique and quilting motifs.

Brook Bottlebrush 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

A very interesting first design.

Ditto the second design!

My favourite of the two is the first one.

Playing with Baby Blocks 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

Electric Quilt 8 allows users to use some very unusual settings for blocks in quilt layouts, and distorts the block designs added to the setting to fit the shapes. The design above uses a standard floral applique block design in each of the shapes in the hexagon.

Ooops!!! I have just noticed that i used a different variation of the block in two triangles!

Just as well I didn’t cut any fabrics for this one!

Love the layout in the second design, but the fabric choice is a bit off-putting.

Baker’s Dozen 59, 60 from Virtual Quilter

I have always liked applique quilts with two block designs alternated, and in particular I like mixing diagonal and straight cross designs.

I also like mixing pieced and applique blocks to make a quilt, as all applique blocks are usually way more time consuming than pieced, so mixing them up can save a lot of time.

Wedding Fans OP 59, 60 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting!

The second design is also interesting but my favourite today is the first design.

I have started scribbling a new applique version of Double Wedding Rings … now all I need an hour or two to sit at the computer and draw the blocks before I can use them in quilt designs.

Floral Wedding 61, 62 from Virtual Quilter

Love the green appearing in the background as it is now the end of a dry winter and there has been very little green on the ground … there has even been less weeds in the garden. (Not a lot less though.)

I love the second design, especially the centre!

Perhaps it is the extra green that makes it more attractive to me.

White Wedding OP 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

I would have loved to walk into a hotel/motel on our wedding night to see something like these designs on the bed!

They would work as whole cloth quilts too, with the applique shapes outlined with two rows of stitching, and a boring background filler.

Floral Wedding OP 53, 54 from Virtual Quilter

Very pretty.

It could be fun to mix up the flower fabrics a bit more interesting to work on … perhaps even totally scrappy!

Wedding Fan 57, 58 from Virtual Quilter

If I had started quilting about 10 years before I did I would have made one of these designs to loan to newly wed children, nieces and nephews, for a month or so after their big day, adding the names and dates of each wedding … but by the time I started quilting some had already tied the knot, and now the next generation are making plans, and I am behind in making quilts for them to keep.

Maybe one of the next generation will become a quilter, and they can backdate the names to their great grandparents!

Double Wedding String of Beads 29, 30 from Virtual Quilter

I love Strings of Beads. The beads themselves can be cut from any scraps of fabric, selected scraps, or purchased fabrics. Mark the shapes onto fusible webbing before ironing onto the wrong side of the fabric, and then cut out.

I love the second design!

Logs in a Misty Garden 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting collection of block designs … especially the pyramids with floral clouds!

Lovely!

Another lovely one.

I think the applique is a bit too much in the design above.

I like the last one … just enough applique, so the logs are an important part of the design, and there is room to show off some quilting.

Irish Chain and Loopy Stuff 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

I quite like the designs in this project file, but the title leaves a lot to be desired!

I like the first design because there is more space for quilting to shine, but I like the effect of the centre in the second design.

Sunshine and Mushrooms 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

Unfortunately, field mushrooms have been very scarce this year due to lack of rain. Will have to wait until next year before we head out to the paddocks and pick up a feed. Unfortunately, mushrooms on in the supermarkets are a poor substitute for the real deal.

Admittedly, the mushrooms depicted in these designs are not white and flattish, but despite not being attractive from an edible point of view, they look more attractive in the quilt environment.

Tiled Visions 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

I started this project file after a road trip which included some rather impressive public buildings, some in the national capital. I thought some of my applique designs could look impressive if were used on tiles to use on floors in hallways, along with kitchens, laundries, bathrooms and toilets. All I have do now is win a massive cross lotto so I can get them made and installed!

In the meantime I can play with virtual quilt designs without damaging any fabric.

Patch Play 41, 42 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting!

The blocks in this project are from the Electric Quilt Library, though I have modified them to create borders and simple filler blocks.

I like the second one best!
